The Skyview-Mead [Storm-Panthers] game featured rugged defense by both teams. Many players on both teams fell to the ground, the play was aggressive, the referee blew the whistle a lot for pushing/tripping, and four yellow warning cards were issued. Skyview had a few more offensive shots on the goal, and controlled the ball more of the game time.

A brisk shot by Suki Mohammadi #2, in a tight group of players around Mead's goal, was caught but then dropped by the good Mead Goalkeeper. At the end of the game, with less that 2 minutes left, Suki Mohammadi seriously injured her kneecap on a collision with the Mead goalie.

Our Goalkeeper, Brynnlee Williams #0, played an excellent game as did our three Defenders: Lundy, Flinn, and Sanchez.

Skyview will now be seeded in the State of Washington overall girls soccer high school Semi-Finals for 2025. This will be the Final 4 competition.

MaxPrep reports that we will play the Tahoma HS Bears (19-1-1) next near Tacoma, on Friday, November 21st, at noon. We played Tahoma before this year, and Tahoma won 1-0.

Karen and I have attended nearly all the soccer games this 2025 season, as have her parents, as well as Hanna Flinn and Beryl Flinn.

We have enjoyed the play of the entire team and the very good coaching this entire 2025 season.

We, of course, take special interest
in the Skyview soccer team Defense:

We carefully watch Goalkeeper Sure-Handed Brynnlee Williams #0, Wing Defender Speedy Leilany Elias Sanchez #8, Center Defender [our grand daughter] Mean Machine Makenna Flinn #17, and Wing Defender Cannonball Quinn Lundy #9.

Last year, in the 2024 season, for our entire Conference, Brynnlee was voted the Most Outstanding Defensive Player, and both Makenna Flinn and Quinn Lundy were voted First Team Defenders in the League.

This Stout 2025 Skyview Defense (Williams, Sanchez, Flinn, Lundy), in addition to all the fine Skyview mid-fielders that helped in defense as needed, recorded 12 shut-out games out of 21, only gave up 2 goals in only one game this season, had four ties against very good teams, and only gave up 10 goals total in 21 games. We lost only 2 games, both by a low score of 0-1. Also, both Makenna Flinn #17 and Leilany Elias Sanchez #8 have also scored 3 offensive goals each this season for the team.

Our local Columbia Newspaper in Vancouver, Washington, has articles featuring the Skyview HS Girls Soccer team games. The articles include photographs, videos, interviews, and commentary.

November 4, 2025 Tuesday

Camas Papermakers played against the Skyview Storm (12-1-4).

The game was held at the neutral soccer stadium in Battleground.

The game started at 7 pm. It rained throughout the game. It was around 50F.

The game was, again, a defensive struggle. The two teams played hard and it ended in a 0-0 tie in regulation. Then they played, in the rain, two overtimes; ending again in a 0-0 tie. Then, they did the penalty kick off phase against the goalies. In the dramatic end, Skyview 1 and Camas 0.

Skyview played Camas three times this season: twice during league play, and once in the 4A State Championship Finals. They were a tough opponent. Our record this season against Camas: a 1-1 Tie (2 Overtimes), a 1-0 Camas win, and a 1-0 Skyview win (2 Overtimes & PKs).

Does Your College Women's Soccer Team Need a Very Good Center Defender?

Subject: Recruiting: A Noteworthy Center Defender: Makenna Flinn

Makenna Erin Flinn is an excellent Center Defender for the Skyview High School Girl’s Varsity Soccer Team in Vancouver, Washington.

Makenna Flinn was awarded First Team Soccer Defender in 2024 in the 4A Greater St. Helens District League. Skyview won the St. Helens League title in 2024.

Makenna is a Senior, and she is a straight A student. She plans to study to become a Physician’s Assistant. She is an officer for both the DECA Entrepreneurial Business Club and the Medical Club at Skyview.

She has lettered in three varsity seasons in both soccer and track and field. In soccer, she has played the entire game in every game for two years.

Makenna is tall, fast, strong, smart, quick, and calm. She is a good leader, and a skilled defender. She is a Captain of the Skyview team in 2025.

Information on 2025 Skyview High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team:

As of 10/10/2025, the Skyview record is 8-0-4. In 12 games this year, Skyview has scored 38 goals, given up only 5, and are undefeated. They are currently ranked 3th in the State of Washington in the 4A Division, and 5th in the entire State. This is despite losing two key offensive players suffering season ending injuries, and another key defender being injured for many games.

Makenna (#17) has defended extremely well against top forwards from other schools (Chiawana, Somner, Camas, Ridgefield, and Columbia River) who are already having scholarship offers.

Makenna knows how to help, cooperate with, and encourage the other two Defenders and the Goalie. Her passing to mid-fielders and defenders is accurate and fast. She can play tough and aggressively and keeps fouls to a minimum in critical situations. She often steals the ball and can drive it forward skillfully for 15-25 yards when needed. She closely guards the best Forward Striker in every game.

She is also an offensive threat. In the second half of games, when Skyview is ahead in scoring, she sometimes is switched to playing a Forward Striker. She has scored three goals this year: one off a header into the goal, and one off her foot into the goal, on Skyview offensive corner side kicks; and, one direct shot for goal after good passing back and forth with other Forwards. Not many top-notch Center Defenders score goals.

Makenna has a good work ethic and puts in the gym work and conditioning for extra strength and speed. She is intelligent and coachable. She has played for the Salmon Creek Nemesis Club since the 4th grade, and as a mid-fielder on other Portland teams. She was coached for many years in Nemesis by Coach Tina Frimpong Ellertson; and, now at Skyview for two years by Coach Matt Houghton.

I hope your scouts will watch Makenna Flinn (#17) show her superior defensive prowess in one of Skyview’s upcoming games. The game at Kiggins Stadium in Vancouver on October 21, 2025, will pit Camas against Skyview; and these two teams tied 1-1 on 10/9. Also, I am sure Skyview will be competing in the Washington State Girls Varsity Soccer Finals.

P.S. I have watched Makenna Erin Flinn play for the last seven years.  I am her grandfather. I am supporting her efforts in seeking university studies in medicine and biological science. Obviously, I am also a fan of women’s soccer … go Portland Thorns, go Skyview Storm!!

Girls Varsity Soccer Champions - Skyview High School

On Saturday, 11/2, the Skyview High School Girls Soccer Team played the Tahoma Bears in a Sectional State Playoff Game. The Bears brought a record of 5-5-2.

It was a cold and overcast day at the Skyview soccer field. The crowd was small.

Unfortunately, as usual, the Skyview sound system was very poor.  No banners for each of our players like we saw at Richfield, Union, and Camas. No cheerleaders. No student section of rooters. On the positive side, the bleachers were clean, outdoor toilets nearby, having a Make a Wish fundraising table, modest attendance fees, an orderly and even tempered audience, good referees, and a security and administrative presence. Everyone felt safe.  Younger children were everywhere and smiling.

The usual group of Skyview soccer parents and their children were in attendance. Our group of Skyview fans and rooters included Alicia and Sean (Makenna Flinn's (#16, Center Defender) parents, Hanna and Matt Flinn, Hanna's visiting sister and her husband, Ryan, Joey, April Garofalo, Grandma Beryl, Grandma Karen, and Grandpa Michael. Everyone had fun!!

Skyview High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team in 2024

A tense and intense game. A stingy defense on both teams.

The game was tied 0-0 at the end of regulation and 2 overtimes.  A final shootout took place.  Each team was tied after 6 shots. The Tahoma kicker hit the side pole and missed. Then, Cannonball Quinn Lundy, kicked the winning goal in the shootout (penalty kick, one on one, one kicker and one goalie ... high tension).

_________________________________________________

Skyview (HS) High School is located in the area north of Vancouver, Washington.  It is located in the northwest unincorporated suburbs of Vancouver, called Salmon Creek.

Our grand daughter, Makenna Flinn, plays center defender (#16) on the Skyview HS Girls Varsity Soccer Team.  She plays the entire game, every game. She is a Junior. She is an A grade student.

The Skyview Girls Varsity Soccer team went undefeated in 2024.
Overall Record of  11 - 0 - 3  Conference  5 - 0 - 1
The Skyview Girls Varsity Soccer Team won the District Championship of the 4A Greater St. Helens Athletic District in the State of Washington.
The last time Skyview HS  won the GSHAD Championship was in 2014.

The Skyview Girls Varsity Soccer Team fielded a very stingy defense - the best in the league.
The defense recorded eight shoutouts, and gave up only 8 goals all season.
The defense never gave up more than 2 goals in a game.
All players pitched in on defense!
The three main defensive players, who played the entire game every game were:
Brynnlee Williams    Goalie                  Junior
Makenna Flinn          Center Defender  Junior   # 16
Quinn Lundy            Wing Defender     Junior   # 19

The Skyview offense was quite powerful at times, and tallied 57 goals in the season. Only six of the games were close. Some of their wins were by wide margins, e.g., 8-0.  Rotations of mid-fielders and striker forwards were frequent, keeping players fresh, strong, and fast. Standouts on offense included Dea Covarrubias, Mya Ellertson, Bella Town, and Cameron Watson.

This team 2024 team had four seniors on the entire roster.
Many of the team members have played together since elementary school at Chinook Elementary in Salmon Creek on the local league team called "The Nemesis."  Karen and I have attended scores of Nemesis soccer games in the last 7 years.

First year Head Coach was Matt Houghton, and his Assistants were Nello Picinich, Mackenzie Ellertson, and Samantha Schoene.

Overall 2024 Record of  11 - 0 - 3  Conference  5 - 0 - 1
57 Goals Scored by Skyview. Only 8 Goals Scored Against Skyview.

Karen and I attended eight of these Girls Varsity Soccer Games.  We went out to dinner with Makenna's parents (Alicia and Sean) and her other grandmother (Beryl) before three of the games. We got to meet many parents of the girls.

We visited some of the big stadiums in the area, e.g., Battleground, Richfield, Union, Camas, and the local Kiggins/Boggs Vancouver Field.

They The Skyview HS Girls Varsity Soccer Team will play their first State Tournament Soccer Game on November 2, 2024, at Skyview.
