Belfair State Park, Washington

I have reserved a Yurt for camping at Belfair State Park along the Hood Canal.

I will arrive there at 4 pm on Monday, September 9th, 2024, and will leave at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 12th, 2024. I usually camp in a Yurt for 3 nights.

I will bring my harmonicas and music books, fishing gear, kites, string figures kit, MP3 music, books, laptop computer, maps, guide books, camera, and writing tools.

I'm sure there will be a ban on campfires from May to October.

Right now, in the summer of 2024, the Hood Canal is so polluted that you cannot safely let the water touch your body. No swimming or wading in the Hood Canal or incoming streams.  Nearly the entire west and south side of the Hood Canal have thousands of summer homes along the shore line.  Leaking septic systems are the primary cause of the pollution. Forget about harvesting shellfish. Scary!

I mostly eat unrefrigerated and uncooked foods when camping. I plan to enjoy a 6 pack of tinned Santo Amaro Sardines from Portugal on this trip. I will also probably eat some meals at a cafe or restaurant in nearby Belfair.

I do some qigong and tai chi chuan and many longer walks.

I plan to drive around and explore the Kitsap Peninsula along the Hood Canal.

Twin Harbors State Park, Washington

I drove from Vancouver to Westport today, October 3rd.  I will stay in a wood cabin at Twin Harbors State Park, starting from 4pm.  I will stay 3 nights in this nice clean cabin with great windows.  I will leave for home on Wednesday, 10/6.  I will camp with my sone Mick and his wife April and their 2 dogs, Freya and Waldo.  They have another cabin reserved for them.  Karen was not feeling well and stayed home to rest.

Images of Twin Harbors State Park.

I drove my favorite scenic route to the Coast:  Tour 1, Longview to Westport

Twin Harbors campground is split up into many parts and has 268 campsites.  The 255 acres of the park has many trails (Shifting Sands Nature Trails) through a shore pine forest and dunes.  Our cabins are close to the shore.  The sand dunes are high and the distance to the shore is a easy quarter mile.  Roaring surf day and night.

Activities planned:  walking, clam digging, surf fishing, jetty fishing, beachcombing, fine meals, tending to dogs, sitting and talking.

The campground was 80% empty.

Ocean Shores, Washington

Today I am camping at Ocean City State Park.  It is a mile walk from the campground to the seashore.  Here are some images of the campground.

The campground is about 4 miles from the commercial and retail business section of Ocean Shores.  There are many access roads to the beach and you can drive on the beach.  I spent most of the day at the beach.  Many kites, electric bikes and carts, horse riding, family gatherings, digging in the sand, beachcombing, partying.  Drove out to the North Jetty of Gray's Harbor.  The Ocean Shores Peninsula is about 7 miles long and 2 miles wide.  Plenty of restaurants, hotels, gift shops, and supply stores.

Children everywhere.  School does not start until September.  Across from my campsite a family set up camp last night and left today.  2 adults and 5 children ages 12 to a toddler.  Laughing, playing, chasing, exploring, running, crying, bickering, gaming ...

Kite Festival

April, Karen, Mick and I all went to Long Beach, Washington.  We stayed in a
cabin on Monday and Tuesday evening.  We attended the annual Kite Festival.
We toured the Long Beach Peninsula all the way north to Oysterville, and south to Cape Disappointment and Ilwaco Harbor.
