"Empty your mind of all thoughts. Let your heart be at
peace. Watch the turmoil of things, but contemplate their
return. Each separate being in the universe returns to the common
source. Returning to the source is serenity.
If you
don't realize the source, you stumble in confusion and sorrow. When
you realize where you come from, you naturally become
tolerant, disinterested, amused, kindhearted as a grandmother,
dignified as a king.
Immersed in the wonder of the
Tao, you can deal with whatever life brings you, and
when death comes, you are ready." - Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching, Chapter 16, Translated by Stephen Mitchell
The Three Step Practice
"First,
come into the present. Flash on what’s happening with you right now. Be fully
aware of your body, its energetic quality. Be aware of your thoughts and
emotions.
Next, feel your heart, literally placing your hand on your
chest if you find that helpful. This is a way of accepting yourself just as you
are in that moment, a way of saying, “This is my experience right now, and it’s
okay.”
Then go into the next moment without any agenda." - Pema Chodron, 2012
